Staff Spotlight - Q&A with Beto Gutierrez, Lead Flood Operations Specialist
Lead Flood Operations Specialists provide staff leadership, inspect, maintain, and repair levees, canals, and pump stations. This includes monitoring elements of the District’s flood control system to identify and report safety and levee stress issues.

Q: How many years have you been with the District?
A: I have been with the District for almost 24 years.
Q: What is your typical workday like at RD1000?
A: Mostly maintenance of levees, including mowing and vegetation removal, waterways, and maintaining the eight pump stations in the District.
Q: What do you love about your job?
A: It is a great feeling when the residents and farmers let me know they appreciate the work I do for the District.
Q: What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?
A: I love spending time with my family and friends. I enjoy having them over and cooking a special meal for them to enjoy.
Q: What should the community know about the District?
A: The community should know that we are a small crew and do our best to maintain and patrol over 42 miles of exterior levees, 30 miles of main drainage canals, 150 miles of sub drainage canals, and 8 pumping plants.
