Staff Spotlight - Q&A with Bryan Hall, Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance Specialist
Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance Specialists diagnose, repair, overhaul and maintain gasoline and diesel-powered light and heavy-duty vehicles, construction machinery, and other flood control/drainage and construction equipment in both field and shop environments.
Here is a little bit about Bryan:
Q: How many years have you been with the District?
A: I have been with the District for 8 years.
Q: What is your typical workday like at RD1000?
A: My workday is never the same. I do anything from changing a wiper blade to fabricating an entire spray rig and everything in between. Overall, I provide essential maintenance services for the District's fleet of vehicles and heavy equipment and perform maintenance at our many facilities. I am also proficient in metal welding and fabricating; I create large metal projects for the District and make repairs.
Q: What do you love about your job?
A: I love the diversity of my job. Every day is a new challenge. I also like the sense of accomplishment when I finish a big project, or successfully diagnose and repair a problem.
Q: What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?
A: My family and I are Drag racers, we spend most of our time either at the track or getting ready for a race. We maintain and race a variety of cars, the quickest and fastest being a Nostalgia top fuel dragster that turns a 1/4 mile time in the 5's at over 260 mph, that's the one I drive.
Q: What is something the community should know about the District but likely does not?
A: Something I'm sure almost nobody in the District knows is that Pumping Plant 1A is over 100 years old, built in the early 1900s, and smells just like the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland. There are even specialty handmade tools for the plant that appear to be original from when the plant was built.
