Staff Spotlight - Q&A with Taylor Tikalsky, Flood Operations Specialist
Flood Operations Specialists provide inspection, maintenance, and repair of levees, canals, and pump stations. This includes monitoring levees, canals, and other elements of the District’s flood control system to identify and report safety and levee stress issues.
Here is a little bit about Taylor:
Q: How many years have you been with the District?
A: I have been with the District for 10 years.
Q: What is your typical workday like at RD1000?
A: A typical day consists of anything from mowing levees and ditches, performing maintenance on District facilities, to picking up debris and refuse around the District.
Q: What do you love about your job?
A: I would have to say I love being able to work outdoors and operating all different types of equipment.
Q: What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?
A: Spending time with family and going camping. I am also a volunteer firefighter.
Q: What is something the community should know about the District but likely do not?
A: During high water events our crew splits between night and day, working 12 hours a day, 7 days a week to ensure the District Is protected 24 hours a day.
